302 - Geriatric Dermatology: Issues, Diagnosis, and Treatment Principles in the Older Adult
CE credit: 1.5; Rx credit: 1 Geriatric dermatology refers to a diverse set of issues, diseases, disorders, and practices that define and deviate from more commonly observed conditions in healthcare. Aging in America is a complicated landscape as 'anti-aging' is a goal for many patients and an active business model for a number of corporations. We must normalize and understand the path of life in dermatology and bring our skills and experience to not only cosmetic issues but the science of skin aging as well. The clinical reality is that older adults are the mainstay of our practices and we must balance the multiple conditions, medications, outcomes, and expectations professionally. This discussion will highlight common conditions and diseases and their treatment. Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
Describe?the integument of older adults.
Recognize and identify the?most?common?benign geriatric skin conditions.
Create effective treatment plans for common geriatric skin Conditions.

303 - Antipsychotic Stewardship
CE credit: 1.5; Rx credit: 1.5 The risks associated with antipsychotic usage in older adults is well documented. Despite the fact that they are not approved for behavioral and psychological symptoms associated with dementia, their use remains common. This presentation will review some of the risk factors associated with antipsychotic agents, the CMS regulatory requirements for clients in long-term care, and some practical tips to employ antipsychotic stewardship. Finally, specific antipsychotics will be compared for their safety profiles. Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
Identify at least three risk factors of antipsychotics.
Recall at least two regulatory considerations when using antipsychotics.
State at least 3 actionable steps that can be used to promote antipsychotic stewardship.
10:30am - 12:00pm EST

304 - Acute/Emergent Care: Putting Together the Puzzle of Shock: A Hemodynamic, Case Study Approach
CE credit: 1.5; Rx credit: 1.5 When a patient is in shock, it is crucial to recognize the type of shock and manage it appropriately to optimize patient outcomes. This session will use a case study approach to help attendees recognize the hemodynamic parameters of distributive, hypovolemic, obstructive, and cardiogenic shock states, and identify the evidence-based approach to managing these conditions. Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
Define the hemodynamic parameters of preload, afterload, cardiac output, cardiac index, mixed venous oxygen saturation, and their measurements.
Identify the signs and symptoms of the different shock presentations.
Develop an evidence-based short-term resuscitation plan and longer-term plan for managing the patient in distributive, hypovolemic, obstructive, and cardiogenic shock.

306 - Managing the "Hot Mess" of Thyroiditis: Post-Partum, Subacute and Others
CE credit: 1.5; Rx credit: 1.5 Post-partum thyroiditis is the most common thyroid disorder in pre-menopausal women; an often misdiagnosed, transient (or permanent) autoimmune thyroid dysfunction with potentially devastating sequela. Subacute thyroiditis made headlines as a surprising morbidity of serious COVID-19 infections, appearing 5 to 8 weeks following acute illness. These and other unusual forms of thyroiditis presented differently than more familiar Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and require alternative interventions. This talk will prepare clinicians to effectively manage these challenging patients. Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
Discuss the signs, symptoms, and presentation of postpartum and subacute thyroiditis (and COVID-related).
Describe the diagnostic workup for postpartum and subacute thyroiditis.
Develop effective treatment strategies for postpartum and subacute thyroiditis.

Recognize signs and symptoms of pneumonia.
Develop a safe, evidence-based treatment plan for patients with CAP.
Consider pneumonia prevention strategies including optimizing vaccination timing in patients at risk for CAP.

CE credit: 1.5; Rx credit: 1.5 Bateria and fungal infections can be challenging to diagnose and treat. It is important to make an accurate diagnose for optimal patient outcomes as well as avoiding the overuse or misuse of pharmacotherapeutics. Recognizing the clinical presentation, utilizing appropriate diagnostics and selection of narrow spectrum antimicrobial is critical for high quality patient care. Learning Outcomes/Objectives:
Discuss the clinical presentations of the most common skin infections caused by bacteria and fungi.
Develop diagnostic approach and indications for targeted antimicrobial therapy.
Review the pharmacodynamics for antibacterials and antifungal therapies for these conditions.
