Joyce Baker

Joyce Baker has over 30 years of experience working in the respiratory care profession which includes neonatal through the adult patient populations.

She is the Asthma Program Coordinator for a large free standing children's hospital that covers a seven state region.

She works closely with specialty and primary care providers in the community to standardize asthma education and transitions of care from hospital to home through asthma care coordination.


Ellen Becker

Dr. Becker has taught or performed pulmonary function testing for at least 20 years. She has also worked in environments with diverse populations and has interests in social determinants of health.


Stacey Blank

Stacey Blank is the Coordinator of Pulmonary Rehabilitation at UPMC Western Maryland. A recent graduate of Thomas Jefferson University's College of Population Health, her goal of patient-centered and value-based care is key to the success of her small, rural program and the outcomes participants achieve. Recent responses to the covid19 pandemic, including the suspension of pulmonary rehab twice in the past year, have had a direct impact on the patient population she serves.


Richard Branson

Rich Branson is Professor in the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati in the Division of Trauma & Critical Care. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Respiratory Care. He has published over 300 articles in the peer reviewed literature and edited two texts.


Joel Brown

Joel Brown has been in the medical field for over 30 years and a Respiratory Therapist for over 23 years. He is an experienced healthcare leader who has lectured on the topics of healthcare resilience, clinical excellence, and advanced leadership in national and international settings.


Randy Case

Dr. Randy Case, is the Director of Interdisciplinary Education for the Health Sciences and Human Services College and an Assistant Professor at Midwestern State University. He received his BSRC from Midwestern State University in 2000, his Master of Arts in Management specializing in Health Care Administration from Wayland Baptist University in 2012, and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands in 2018.

Dr. Case began teaching in 2013 with 17 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, most of which was spent specializing in pediatric and neonatal intensive care at United Regional Health Care Systems in Wichita Falls, Texas. Dr. Case’s research interests include interdisciplinary healthcare education and simulation development and implementation.


Robert Chatburn

Prof. Chatburn has been a leading authority in the area of research and mechanical ventilation for over 40 years. He co-authored the AARC website entitled Additional Ventilators May Pose a Risk to Hospital Gas Systems, explaining the issues related to oxygen supply during COVID surge usage


Ira Cheifetz

Dr. Cheifetz is the Chief of Cardiac Critical Care at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital and an expert in the field of pediatric respiratory care. He has presented at the AARC Congress throughout the years and is often an invited speaker at international scientific conferences. He is also a member of the AARC Board of Medical Advisors.


Tiffany Christensen

A patient advocate and patient experience professional, Tiffany is a life-long cystic fibrosis patient who has received two double-lung transplants and is currently receiving hemodialysis while awaiting a donor kidney.

Tiffany is Vice President for Experience Excellence at The Beryl Institute (Nashville), where she is focused on supporting the integration of patient and family perspectives, and shining a light on systemic racism in healthcare. She is also faculty for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Patient Safety Executive Development and Chief Quality Officer Programs, and a member of several boards dedicated to bridging the gap between healthcare policy and the lived experience of patients.

Tiffany has authored three books exploring advocacy, end-of-life planning and partnership strategies in healthcare. A TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer and a Respecting Choices Advance Care Planning Instructor, she has previously worked in patient advocacy and engagement at Duke University Hospital (Durham) and the North Carolina Hospital Association.

Rachel Culbreth

Dr. Culbreth conducts research on smoking and vaping, and has received research funding to study the physiological effects of vaping CBD oil. Dr. Culbreth also studies predictors and drivers for patterns of substance use using advanced multivariate methods.


Felipe Damiani

L.Felipe Damiani is Physio and respiratory therapist with more than 10 years of clinical and research experience. He holds a Master's degree in epidemiology and Doctoral degree in medical science. He currently works as an assistant professor at Universidad Catolica in Chile and collaborates with Dr. Brochard at University of Toronto.


Jim Damron

Jim Damron is the founder of Grapevine Academy, an online discovery platform dedicated to improving caregivers' care. He is a speaker, professional coach, and clinical ethicist. For the past 23 years, he has also worked in the pulmonary field as a Respiratory Therapist.


John Davies

John is a Clinical Research Coordinator with the focus being on adult critical care. He is a Co-Chair of the Mechanical Ventilation Simulation Committee for CHEST. John has also been awarded the "Distinguished CHEST Educator" annually from 2017 to 2021.


Rob DiBlasi

Rob DiBlasi manages the Respiratory Therapy Translational Research Lab. Over the last five years, Rob and his team have evaluated nebulizer efficiency, delivered lung dose, and depositional losses with several aerosolized surfactant delivery systems using dry powder and liquid aerosol designed for use with noninvasive and invasive mechanical ventilation. Pre-clinical research from the lab has been focused on evaluating evaluated physiologic outcomes on pulmonary mechanics, gas exchange, inflammation/injury, work of breathing and electrical impedance tomography. Findings from this research have informed development of clinical trials for pre-term infants with RDS and large patients with COVID-19 ARDS.


John Emberger

Respiratory therapist with 27 years of experience in acute care and neonatal ICU's, including research, publications and lectures across the country.


Eddy Fan

Eddy Fan is an Associate Professor in the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto and a Staff Intensivist at the University Health Network/Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Fan received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario and a PhD in Clinical Investigation from Johns Hopkins University. He is currently the Medical Director of the Extracorporeal Life Support Program at the Toronto General Hospital. Dr. Fan’s research has focused on advanced life support for acute respiratory failure and patient outcomes from critical illness.


Jacklyn Grimball

Jakki grew up hearing about the medical experiments performed on Black people since slavery, family members would discuss how these atrocities affect their mistrust in hospitals and doctors. She witnessed the lack of appropriate treatment for many family members. This is one of the reason she became a respiratory therapist. Having read and studied about the centuries of medical experiments performed on Black Americans to increase awareness she wanted to be a source of information for others in the medical profession.

Shawn Harper

With 25 years of experience, Shawn Harper has earned an excellent reputation as one of the nation's leading corporate motivational speakers! Jackie Heisler

As an educator, the pandemic has molded how instruction is delivered to students over the last 18 months. This includes clinicals, evaluations, and didactic work. Jackie has done online teaching for over 10 years which aided programs in making quick curriculum adjustments over a very short period of time utilizing a variety of methods for learning.


Stephen Hepditch

Steve Hepditch has been a clinician in adult & pediatric care, a travel RT, an ECMO specialist and a supervisor before moving to his current position as a clinical educator at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC. His specific areas of interest are staff education, patient safety and promoting evidence-based clinical practice.

Jody Lester

Associate Professor in the Department of Respiratory Care at Boise State University; respiratory care educator for 38 years; online educator for 19 years. The profession of respiratory care has gifted me with opportunities to teach in Japan, to speak at AARC educational conferences, to make meaningful differences in the lives of patients, and to play role in helping practitioners with Associates Degrees earn their Bachelor's Degree.


Jie Li

Dr. Li is an associate professor in Respiratory care department at Rush University and she is also the section editor for Respiratory Care journal. Her research interests are aerosol therapy, prone positioning and respiratory support including high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy. In this field, she has 52 peer-review publications (46 as first/ corresponding author).


Michael Lipnick

Michael Lipnick, M.D. is an anesthesiologist and intensivist at San Francisco General Hospital and the Co-Director of the UCSF Center for Health Equity in Surgery and Anesthesia (CHESA). Michael is an investigator in the UCSF Hypoxia Lab and has active research projects including pulse oximetry development for low-income countries, examining mechanisms of hypoxia tolerance, preconditioning, as well as outcomes in critically-ill patients with ARDS.


Neil MacIntyre

Long time Medical Director at Duke. Well published with over 200 peer reviewed works. Active with BOMA, ARCF and Respiratory Care journal.


Maria Madden

Maria has served over 30 years as an adult critical care respiratory therapist, educator, and research coordinator for the University of Maryland Medical Center/R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and ICON.? Maria will share her extensive bedside experience and knowledge on this topic.


David Mannino

Dr. Mannino is the Medical Director and Co-Founder of the COPD Foundation and has a long history of research and advocacy in COPD. He has over 300 peer-reviewed publications on COPD and other respiratory diseases.


Kevin McQueen

Kevin is a registered respiratory therapist with 36 years of experience. He holds a master�s degree in healthcare administration from Colorado State University and currently serves as the System Director of Respiratory Care for the University of Colorado Health System in Colorado (12 hospitals). In his past roles, he has served as an environment of care officer, patient experience director, risk manager, and patient safety officer. Kevin has authored and co-authored a number of articles and toolkits, primarily focusing on patient safety and respiratory care topics.


Andrew Miller

Mr. Miller is a pediatric Respiratory Care Practitioner, ECMO Specialist and charge therapist at Duke University Medical Center. He has been a member of the AARC since 2006 and was inducted as a Fellow of the AARC in 2020. He is the author of over 50 peer reviewed publications and has lectured on a variety of respiratory care topics, including multiple recent publications as lead author related to advanced mechanical ventilation.


Sara Mirza

Dr Mirza is an intensivist and pulmonologist in a busy academic medical Center in Chicago. She also serves as the medical director for the Department of Respiratory Care. Working with respiratory care practitioners and critical care trainees she is constantly faced with the critical decision to intubate patients with respiratory failure.


Michael Morris

Dr. Morris is the research director for Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center. He is a recognized expert in the evaluation of asthma, exercise-induced bronchospasm and dyspnea in military personnel. As the lead researcher in the DoD on post-deployment respiratory symptoms, he has published the STAMPEDE studies.


Carl Mottram

Mr. Mottram is the former Technical Director of the Mayo Clinic PFT Laboratory and Associate Professor of Medicine and now the President of PFWConsulting LLC. He serves as Immediate Past President of the Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI). He also serves on the National Board for Respiratory Care and is Chair of their PFT Examination committee. He is also the author/editor of Ruppel's Manual of Pulmonary Function Testing


Pat Munzer

Pat Munzer is currently President of the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care. She has also served as a commissioner for over 12 years.


Thomas Nakagawa

Thomas A. Nakagawa, M.D., FAAP, FCCM, is a pediatric critical care specialist. He is a Professor of Pediatrics at The University of Florida College of Medicine and the Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Nakagawa serve as the Assistant Medical Director for Carolina Donor Services in Durham, North Carolina.


Natalie Napolitano

Research Clinical Specialist in the Respiratory Therapy Department at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where she runs a bench lab and guides clinical research important to the science of Respiratory Care. She currently serves as a member of the AARC Government affairs and Fellowship committees, as the Vice President of the Pennsylvania Society for Respiratory Care and co-chair for the Pennsylvania Respiratory Research Collaborative.


Matthew O'Brien

Matt has 35 years experience working in pulmonary diagnostics, working in labs that routinely evaluated patients presenting with dyspnea; he is credentialed as an RRT and RPFT.


Howard Panitch

Dr. Panitch has directed the home ventilation program for the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at CHOP for the last 23 years. At present, they follow about 1,000 ventilator-dependent children in the community. He has been involved with the Pulmonary Hypoplasia Program at CHOP since 2004 and has cared for a large number of infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia and pulmonary hypoplasia who require ventilatory assistance, and we have worked to provide some of that support noninvasively using novel methods.


Manju Parne

Highly Motivated and trained RT in IP field, Manju has been with the Interventional Pulmonology department from conception to the present. Started as a lead RT and became a clinical manager of the department. Established RT role and developed IP department which currently consists of 5 nurses, 9 respiratory therapists and 3 techs.


Thomas Piraino

Thomas Piraino is a Registered Respiratory Therapist working at Kingston General Hospital in Ontario, and a Research Coordinator at St. Michael�s Hospital in Toronto working with Dr. Laurent Brochard. He is also a Lecturer (Adjunct) for the Department of Anesthesia, Division of Critical Care at McMaster University. He has spoken at more than 50 conferences, authored research, editorials, and text book chapters. He is an editorial board member for Respiratory Care, and has won a number of awards and recognitions for his contributions to respiratory care.


Alexandre Rotta

Dr. Rotta is a Professor of Pediatrics at Duke University and the chief of the division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. He has published over 100 peer reviewed papers and has given over 200 invited presentations worldwide. His research interests include acute respiratory failure, critical bronchiolitis, respiratory support modalities, and outcomes research.


Marc Schlessinger

In his current role at ECRI, Mr. Schlessinger is a Senior Consultant in the Applied Solutions group, providing consulting services and assistance to hospitals and other healthcare institutions in matters concerning patient safety, alarm management, device integration, technology, strategic planning, operations, and capital planning. He has spoken nationally on various topics revolving around alarm management and reducing alarm fatigue.


Brady Scott

Brady Scott, is the director of clinical education and associate professor for the respiratory care program at Rush University. He has been a respiratory therapist for more than 20 years, with clinical practice experience in adult emergency/critical respiratory care. In 2007, he was named the Adult Acute Care Specialty Practitioner of the Year by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). He is a fellow of both the AARC and the American College of Chest Physicians. Brady has lectured at regional, state, national, and international conferences on topics pertaining to respiratory care. His research interests include simulation-based education and emergency/critical respiratory care.


Jaspal Singh

Dr. Singh serves as a Professor of Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center and Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC, where he also serve as both the Atrium Health Medical Director of Adult Critical Care Practice and Education, as well Director of Innovation and Quality Improvement in Medical Oncology. In addition to serving as Medical Director of the Respiratory Care Program at Central Piedmont Community College, he is involved in several national organizations including the American Thoracic Society, CHEST, Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Society for Advanced Bronchoscopy.


James Stoller

Dr. James K. Stoller is a pulmonary/critical care physician at the Cleveland Clinic. He holds the Jean Wall Bennett Professorship and the Samson Global Leadership Academy Endowed Chair at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and serves as the Chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Education Institute. Dr. Stoller holds a Masters degree in organizational development and serves as adjunct Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Weatherhead School of Management of Case Western Reserve University. His main areas of interest in pulmonary/critical care regard alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, COPD, and the delivery of respiratory care services and in organizational behavior regard the impact and organization of physician leadership development.


Shawna Strickland

Dr. Strickland is a registered respiratory therapist and certified association professional. During her employment at the University of Missouri, she joined the Center for Health Ethics in 2010 as a clinical ethics consultant, where she continues to serve as a Center Scholar. Dr. Strickland joined the American Epilepsy Society in 2021 as the Associate Executive Director, Programs, to continue her focus on effective association practice, clinical activities, research, and quality continuing education. In addition to association management, She also serves as adjunct faculty at Rush University, teaching doctoral courses in educational leadership and adult education in the College of Health Sciences.


Tammy Stucki

Tammy became a Pulmonary Disease Navigator in 2017 at St George Regional Hospital. She educates patients about their various respiratory diseases and provides solutions for their various concerns. She is also involved in creating growth opportunities for the field of respiratory.


Sheri Tooley

President of the AARC will give update on AARC activities and plans for the future of the organization. review organizational goals and answer questions posed by members.


Sarah Varekojis

Sarah Varekojis (var-a-ko-jis, pronounced phonetically) is the Director of Clinical Education and an associate professor in the respiratory therapy program at The Ohio State University. She is a proud graduate of the respiratory therapy program at Ohio State, and she also obtained her doctorate in adult education and health education from Ohio State. She has over 20 years of experience teaching primarily mechanical ventilation, neonatal/pediatrics, and research in the program, and coordinates all of the clinical rotations for the students. Her primary research interests are related to teaching and learning in respiratory therapy. She has recently conducted and published research related to peer teaching, smoking cessation training, service-learning, and preceptor training.


David Vines

David L. Vines, Ph.D., RRT, FAARC, FCCP, is a professor, Respiratory Care program director, and Chairperson for the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He directs the only entry master’s level respiratory therapy program in Illinois. He also serves a role in hospital operations of Rush’s clinical services in respiratory care. He is currently the president and Board of Trustees member for the National Board for Respiratory Care.


Teresa Volsko

Terry currently services as the Vice President for Quality and Data Integration for the Centers for Families and Children in Cleveland, Ohio. She is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications focused on pediatric airway care and innovative ways to safely achieve and maintain a patent artificial airway in infants and children. Terry services the profession in many capacities, including a member of the editorial board for RC Journal, the Associate Editorial Board for the Canadian Journal for Respiratory Therapy and as a reference for several refereed journals.


Carrie Winberg

Carrie is the Director for the TCC Respiratory Therapists. She is the system lead for critical care operations initiatives for our 24 facilities and former Adult LifeFlight Transport RT.


Tonya Winders

Tonya Winders, MBA, serves full-time as CEO of Allergy & Asthma Network & is a fierce patient advocate. She has served on the ARCF for six years & is currently the Chair of the ARCF. Tonya has dedicated the past 20 years to advocating to end the needless death & suffering due to asthma, allergies & related conditions.


Chip Zimmerman

Chip has served as the founding coordinator for IPE in the Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions since 2016, and have been a part of numerous theses, dissertations, and published abstracts on the topic.
